Think of it as being a bit like getting burned by a stove. It's not about anger or shame, it's about consequence. Us, the voters, are finally giving Hillary a bit of feedback. Yep, Obama isn't perfect. We're electing a President - not a Saviour. I for one, kind of like the idea that we are electing a President that is a bit slow to judge and doesn't evaluate everyone that crosses his path on the basis of political expediency.
Does Hillary have anyone in her history that gives one pause in regards to what kind of person would attract and encourage such company? If it takes you more than 2 seconds to say - YES, then you've just not been paying attention.
But this isn't about trashing Hillary (believe it or not to this point), it's about recognizing that Obama's strength has to do with how he inspires bunches and bunches and bundles and groups and gobs of people. The PEOPLE of this country is where the change and energy resides. It's where it has ALWAYS been. Presidents that inspire the people are great Presidents (think of them in term of inspiring - FDR, Lincoln, Kennedy, Washington, maybe even Teddy Roosevelt and Truman - personally I think of the last two as being more colorful than inspiring but I may have it wrong). Obama has that. Obama is so inspiring that the people could very well sweep him into being the President we want him to be. We can propel him into winning Congressional votes that would otherwise not be available to him. Think about it - would you want to defy the hundreds or thousands of your constituency that contact your office telling you to support Universal Healthcare, Tax Reform, Energy Reforms, etc.? Or rather, would you want to face your next re-election bid after defying all those people?
No the path won't be easy, heck it's not been easy to this point. It's been an uphill battle competing with the name, power, favors and recognition that the Clintons' have garnered all these years. Do you truly believe that Hillary didn't have a huge stockpile of favors due to her? Do you think her firewall states 'just happened'? Looking back now, it seems clear that Senator Clinton has been running for President for perhaps as much as 20 years now. Building networks and fundraising machines and contacts in all areas of politics, the media. She's nurtured the early careers of people who are now superdelegates and the love of the good people of PA and OH and TX. It was no accident.
Obama simply should not be happening. Perhaps if Bush were not such a horrible President, the electorate wouldn't be clamoring so loudly for change or demanding so much or pushing so inexorably for change...but this is what we have and a Clinton Presidency does not assure that profound re-invention of how our country operates. More critically, I think people are angry that they have NOT had a voice in this campaign and what is Barack Obama offering? He's offering the PEOPLE a voice again. He's not bought and paid for by lobbyists. From the beginning he's offered the people a stake in his campaign through our energy with grassroots campaigning and money. All those millions came from us.
Guess what? He deserves some more money tonight.
